Lemons originated in India and then spread globally to temperate and tropical regions of the world. They were sought by early sailors to prevent or treat vitamin C deficiency, also known as scurvy. For optimal benefits, drink water with lemon on an empty stomach in the morning. If you weigh less than 150 pounds, use a squeezed lemon in a glass of purified water and drink it twice a day. It is known that eating foods high in vitamin C helps the body develop a defense against infection and also removes harmful free radicals from the blood.

Add lemon juice to a tall glass of hot water while dipping your feet in a bucket of hot water at about 104 degrees Fahrenheit, sipping the water to your liking or about 110 degrees Fahrenheit at about 20 minutes or until sweating. Drink lemon water every hour until the symptoms go away.
